Elementary Science Program Expansion

Issyk Kul Secondary School is proud to announce the expansion of our elementary science program, designed to foster scientific curiosity and critical thinking skills in our youngest learners through hands-on experimentation and discovery-based learning.

The enhanced program introduces age-appropriate laboratory experiences for students as young as first grade, allowing them to engage in simple but meaningful scientific investigations that build foundational understanding of core scientific concepts.

"Young children are natural scientists – curious, observant, and eager to understand how things work," said Ms. Gulnara Toktomamatova, Elementary Science Coordinator. "Our expanded program harnesses that natural curiosity and provides structured opportunities for students to develop scientific thinking skills through direct experience."

The program includes newly developed science kits for each grade level, containing materials for experiments that align with curriculum standards while encouraging exploration and wonder. Recent activities have included investigating plant growth conditions, exploring simple machines, observing chemical reactions, and studying local ecosystems.

Teachers have reported increased engagement and enthusiasm for science among their students. "The excitement when an experiment produces unexpected results is wonderful to see," shared Ms. Aida Nurbekova, a third-grade teacher. "Students are learning that science isn't just about memorizing facts – it's about asking questions and finding answers through investigation."

Parents have also noticed the impact of the program at home. "My daughter now wants to conduct 'experiments' with everything," said Nurlan Asanov, parent of a second-grader. "She's constantly observing, asking questions, and trying to figure out how things work. It's amazing to see her thinking like a scientist."

The expanded program also includes professional development for elementary teachers to enhance their confidence and skills in teaching science through inquiry-based methods.

This initiative represents our school's commitment to building strong STEM foundations from the earliest grades, preparing students for more advanced scientific study in later years while nurturing the joy of discovery that makes science so engaging.
